You might not think it is all that important. Yet, it is the most important thing our body needs to survive.

Up to 60% of our body is made up of water. At the same time, we need water to keep our body going and ensure that it properly functions.

We need it for our muscles to work correctly, help digestion and even breath.

Why Do We Need Water?

There are limitless reasons why your body needs water to survive. However, before I give you some insight into this, let's take a step back and look at what our body is made up of.

Our body is made mainly of water. In fact, on average, just over 60 %.

A woman is made up of 60% water, whilst a man contains a little more - resting at 65%. A baby or growing toddler is made up of 75% water.

Most of your organs, blood and even skin and bones are made up of a partial percentage of water.

Your lungs score highest as they are made of 90% of water.

To breathe - water works as a prime mechanism in our respiratory system.

Then, our brain, blood, liver, kidneys, and heart are over 80% made of water again.

So, all our organs and general bodily functions would break down without drinking water and cease working. That's just how important it is!

Here are some other reasons why drinking water is mandatory:

So, there you have it! Twenty-two golden reasons why you need to drink more water. However, how much water is it advised to drink?…

How Much Water?

It's okay to say - "let's drink more water."

However, just how much water are we supposed to drink?

What if we overdrink water - is that dangerous too?

Well, yes, actually it is. You can overdrink water, which means that your kidneys can't get rid of the excess water.

This can lower the sodium level in your blood, leading to what could be a life-threatening illness called hyponatremia.

Then, if you don't drink enough water, the list of health risks are endless. However, you are going to feel it instantly with dehydration.

This happens when your body releases more fluids than it is taking in.

Dehydration can result in instant hospitalisation. When it has reached this point, your body will need more than just drinking water to rehydrate itself.

You will need to be closely monitored on a drip that will replace fluids and essential salts and minerals that your body will be missing.

So, to save this from happening, always keep a water bottle with you. And always drink more water in hot weather.

Health experts advise that we should drink:

  • 3.6 litres of water a day for men
  • 2.7 litres of water a day for women

However, these measurements depend on your physical lifestyle, weather, and women when menstruating. You should drink more water:

  • During menstruation (if you're a woman)
  • If you exercise a lot
  • If you drink alcohol or coffee regularly
  • If you smoke
  • If you eat sugary or salty pre-packaged foods
  • During a heatwave

Therefore, you can use the above measurements as a basis, but don't hesitate to drink more water in all the above cases. You will need more fluids to replace the ones that you lose.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help Hydrate You?

Now, you would think that our body naturally calls out for water. However, it is surprising how such a high number of people don't realise they're not drinking enough water.

Unfortunately, your body doesn't always call out for water not, as it does for sugar, coffee, or alcohol even.

The trouble is, your mind doesn't always send off the right signals.

Alcohol and sugar instantly interact with our pain signals, which are often triggered by stress.

So, when we are feeling stressed, then we get a satisfying feeling of relaxation drinking alcohol or an adrenaline rush eating sugar.

The moment we ingest these substances, our mood levels appear to go up. However, they come crashing back down again.

Not only that, but they are incredibly addictive and poison our bodies.

They also aid in dehydrating us, which is why we should always replace our bodily fluids with more water especially if we choose to consume these incredibly unhealthy substances regularly.

So, where do we start?
